Aging
affects the skin around the eyes as well as the rest
of the face. Drooping skin can be caused by aging and
sun damage. Sometimes it may interfere with vision.
Baggy or puffy areas beneath the eye, caused from skin
laxity or fatty deposits, can give a tired and aged
appearance. Eyelid plastic surgery can be performed
to remove excess skin and fat, and may improve vision
and appearance. Blepharoplasty
Plastic surgery of the eyelids, known as blepharoplasty,
can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids.
Excess skin and fat are removed to eliminate droopy
or baggy eyelids. On the upper lids, an incision is
placed in the crease of the eyelid to minimize any visible
scarring.
When treating the lower lids, our surgeons use a specialized
technique due to their unique experience working near
the eye. The incision is placed inside of the eyelid
so that no sutures are needed. There is no visible scarring.
Excess fat is removed in this manner to eliminate the
bags associated with aging. Blepharoplasty is performed
in the office using local anesthesia. Botox
for Wrinkles and Blepharospasm
Ophthalmologists pioneered the use of Botox for ocular
and neurological disorders more than a decade ago. Each
year, thousands of patients receive Botox treatments
for a variety of conditions, but it has most recently
become a safe and popular treatment for reversing the
visible signs of aging.
Dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles of expression) are caused
by contraction of the facial muscles each time you laugh,
smile or frown. Botox injections relax these muscles
and can dramatically soften the wrinkles between and
around the eyes and forehead. Botox injections are also
highly effective for the treatment of involuntary spasms
of the face, known as blepharospasm.
